The count for medals continues for Klaipėda Cycling Team, as three gold medals were won on the track
During the second day of Lithuanian Track Cycling Championship in Panevėžys, Cido Arena, three gold medals were won by Klaipėda Cycling Team cyclists.
Romas Zubrickas of Klaipėda Cycling Team triumphed among 11 participants at junior keirin race. R. Zubrickas’ teammates Zigmas Derkintis and Denas Masiulis ranked fifth and ninth respectively.
D. Masiulis, R. Zubrickas, Z. Derkintis and Matas Antanavičius (Fortūna) won 3 km junior team pursuit race. They completed the distance in 3 min. 25,13 sec. and overcame the second ranked rivals by 4,4 sec.
In junior omnium among 14 riders Z. Derkintis was the strongest. He collected 119 points throughout four omnium events – scratch, tempo race, elimination race and points race. Rokas Gelžinis (Fortūna) was second with 116 points. Mantas Januškevičius (Gaja) took the third place, R. Zubrickas – fourth. Both cyclists collected 109 points. Romas ranked lower because in the final sprint he finished fifth whilst Mantas – first.
D. Masiulis leading after two omnium events and being second after the third event, eventually did not finish the omnium competition. He crashed during the third event – the elimination race, and damaged his hand. After urgent hospitalisation he was diagnosed with severe elbow concussion.
After two days of competitions Artūras Šiugždinis’ trainees earned nine medals in total! Klaipėda cyclists brought home five gold, three silver and one bronze medal.
